Why have I received a payment reminder email from IONITY?

You might receive a payment reminder when an invoice is still outstanding, for example if the automatic payment via credit card, Google Pay, or Apple Pay was unsuccessful.

What triggers the payment reminder process for an IONITY App/WebApp customer?
  • Pre‑authorisation succeeded - Your credit card was successfully pre‑authorised, which allowed the charging session to start and finish without interruption.
  • Final payment failed - After the session, IONITY attempted to collect the actual payment, but your bank did not release the funds.
  • Reminder process triggered - Because the payment could not be collected, the system automatically sends a reminder to settle the outstanding amount.
  • What triggers the payment reminder process for an IONITY Power / Motion customer?
  • Monthly subscription invoiced - The customer receives an invoice for their IONITY Power or Motion monthly subscription fee (e.g., 5.99 EUR or the equivalent in local currency).
  • Payment attempt fails - The credit‑card payment for this monthly subscription fee is attempted but does not go through.
  • Bank declines transaction - IONITY receives a notification from the customer’s bank that the payment has been declined.
  • Reminder process triggered - Because the subscription fee remains unpaid, IONITY’s automated payment‑reminder process is activated to collect the outstanding amount.
  • I have received an invoice, why are you telling me I have not paid?
    • The invoice gets triggered and sent regardless of whether the credit card payment went through or not
    • There are two reasons why the payment may have been rejected by your bank:
      • IONITY requested a pre‑authorization of 40 EUR (or the equivalent in other currencies). The customer’s bank approved this amount, allowing the charging session to proceed normally. After the session, IONITY submitted an adjustment request for the final charging amount. However, some banks may decline this adjustment, which prevents the final payment from being collected.
      • If you have an IONITY Motion or Power subscription, the monthly fee is charged automatically on your recurring billing date. In some cases, the subscription payment does not go through—for example, if your bank declines the transaction. When this happens, the subscription fee remains unpaid, and IONITY’s automated payment‑reminder process is triggered to collect the outstanding amount.
Are there other ways to pay besides bank transfer?

Currently, you can settle an outstanding amount using one of the following methods:

    • Via the payment link provided in your payment reminder email
    • Via bank transfer using the bank details included in the payment reminder

Please ensure you use the correct IBAN country specified in the payment reminder. Payments made to an incorrect IBAN country cannot be matched and may result in delays in processing.

Can I pay in another currency?
    • The payment must be made to the country-specific bank account in the local currency in which the charging process took place. Please note that IONITY cannot make any exceptions to this for tax reasons. Thank you for your understanding.
How long do I have before I have to pay the pending amount?
    • The date by which you need to make the payment is indicated in the PDF that is included in your email reminder.
What happens if I do not make the outstanding payments?
    • You will receive a second reminder by email with an additional processing fee added (3 EUR or equivalent in other currencies).
    • If you still do not pay, IONITY reserves the right to take legal action.
