FRAUD ALERT: Beware of fake QR Codes at our Charging Locations
We want to make you aware of a scam targeting users of EV charging stations. Fraudsters have been placing fake QR codes over the genuine ones, redirecting unsuspecting customers to fraudulent websites that closely mimic our official payment website. These fake websites may attempt to steal your payment details or other personal information.
How to Stay Safe:
- Inspect the QR code before scanning: Look out for signs of tampering such as peeling edges, mismatched colours, or stickers placed over the original QR code. The photos below show examples of a fake QR code placed on top of the real one.
- Be cautious of fake websites: Fraudulent payment sites may use similar logos, layouts, and branding to appear legitimate. Always double-check the web address to make sure you're on the correct site: https://payment.ionity.eu
- Use the IONITY App: Whenever possible, use the IONITY App instead of scanning a QR code. You can download it for free from your device’s app store. Alternatively, contactless card payment via a terminal (if available) is also a secure option.
- Report suspicious activity: If you come across any fake QR codes or notice anything unusual, please contact our customer service team and report it.
Your awareness helps protect both you and others from fraud. Stay vigilant and charge with confidence!
